Struttura

I principali sono "can," "could," "may," "might," "must," "shall," "should," "will," e "would."
subject + modal verb + base verb
- "She can speak English."
- "You should review the lesson."
Non aggiungere "-s": "She cans speak English." è errato. Normalmente non usare "to": di' "We must leave.", non "We must to leave." Per le domande: "Can you help me?" Per la negazione: "You should not worry."
Significati principali
"Can" indica capacità presente; "could" indica capacità passata, richiesta cortese o possibilità: "Could you repeat that, please?" "May" e "might" esprimono possibilità: "She may join the class tomorrow." "He may have missed the train." indica una possibilità passata.
"Should" consiglia: "You should practice speaking every day." "Must" esprime obbligo o conclusione: "You must show identification." "She must be tired."

Non usare "do": "Can you help me?" Metti "not" dopo il modal: "You should not worry." e "They might not agree."
Can e Could
