Passive voice is a useful English structure that shifts attention from the person doing an action to the action or its receiver. In "The email was sent yesterday," the email is more important than the sender. The sentence may not even need to identify who sent it.

Conjunctions are small words with a big job. They connect words, phrases, and clauses so that a listener can understand how ideas relate. Without conjunctions, English can sound abrupt: "I studied. I was tired. I finished the assignment." With conjunctions, the relationship becomes clear: "Although I was tired, I studied, and I finished the assignment."

Reported speech lets you communicate what another person said without repeating every word exactly. Direct speech gives the original words: "I am tired." Reported speech gives the message from a new point of view: "She said that she was tired."

Articles in English are only a few letters long, but they carry important information. The words "a," "an," and "the" tell a listener whether a noun is general or specific, new or already known. English also uses the zero article, which means that no article appears before a noun.

Relative clauses add information about a noun inside one sentence. Instead of saying "I met a student. The student speaks three languages," you can say "I met a student who speaks three languages." The words "who speaks three languages" identify or describe the student.

Verb tenses show when an action happens and how the speaker views that action. English verb tenses can express a habit, an action in progress, a completed event, or a connection between two times. That is why simply memorizing "past, present, and future" is not enough.

Modal verbs help you express ability, possibility, permission, advice, obligation, prediction, and polite requests. These small auxiliary verbs can change a sentence significantly. Compare "I go" with "I can go," "I should go," and "I must go." The main action stays the same, but the speaker's meaning changes.

Run-on sentences are among the most common problems in English writing. A run-on sentence happens when a writer joins two or more complete ideas without the punctuation or connecting word that the ideas need. The result can confuse a reader, even when every individual word is correct.
