ESL Los Angeles students enjoy having cultural experiences and connecting with their community. Artwalks are great opportunities for ESL Los Angeles students to discover new, local art.
Each month, ESL Los Angeles students at Columbia West College attend the DTLA Artwalk. Artwalk is a community event that brings L.A. artists together to show their work. Artwalk happens on the second Thursday of every month. During the DTLA Artwalk, the art galleries in Downtown L.A.’s Gallery Row host special exhibits and events. Dozens of galleries participate in Artwalk. To see a list of participating galleries and special events, visit the Artwalk website: http://downtownartwalk.org/.
During their monthly artwalk adventures, Columbia West College students visit several of the most exciting and popular galleries in Downtown. The art galleries in the upper level of The Last Bookstore are one of their favorite places to visit during Artwalk. The Last Bookstore is located on the corner of Spring and 5th Street in Downtown L.A. Several L.A. artists display their work at The Last Bookstore galleries. These artists include painters and sculptors who make art with traditional and unusual materials. To see pictures of the interesting art that decorates The Last Bookstore, click here.
Columbia West College students also enjoy visiting the very popular and top-rated Hive Gallery on Spring and 9th Street. The Hive Gallery has been voted as one of L.A.’s best galleries. The Hive displays work by local painters and sculptors who make types of art, including Lowbrow and Pop Surrealist. (For more information about L.A. artists and their styles, check out our article: Best L.A. Artists. A former CWC student shows her artwork at the Hive Gallery.
