L.A. Museums

There are over 100 museums in Los Angeles. L.A. art museums hold many art treasures from around the world. L.A. art museums show art from all historical periods and artistic styles. In L.A. art museums, you can find art from ancient times to the present day. May 18th is National Museum Day. On this day, all L.A. art museums are free. Here are some of the most popular  L.A. art museums you can visit on National Museum Day or any day of the year for an exciting cultural experience.

L.A. Museums: Los Angeles County Museum of Art (LACMA)

The LACMA is L.A.’s largest art museum with over 120, 000 works of art. The museum shows paintings, sculptures, and textiles from all major art periods. The LACMA has a large collection of American, Latin American, Greek, and Roman art. The LACMA also has special exhibits of photography, fashion, and film. Works by Impressionist painters Degas, Monet, Manet, and Cezanne can be seen at the LACMA. For current events at the LACMA, visit their website:


L.A. Museums: Museum of Contemporary Art (MOCA)

The MOCA has three L.A. art museum locations: Downtown, Little Tokyo, and the Pacific Design Center in West Hollywood. The MOCA art museums showcase contemporary art (recent art). Works by 20th century artists Roy Lichtenstein, Claes Oldenburg, Jean-Michel Basquiat, Mike Kelley, Cindy Sherman, and Mark Rothko can be seen at the MOCA. L.A. Museums: The Getty Center

Known for its beautiful views, gardens, and architecture, the Getty Center is the most visited L.A.art museum. Built on a hill, the Getty Center offers some of the best views of Los Angeles. The museum also contains many masterpieces. When you visit the Getty Center, be sure to see Irises by Vincent van Gogh. For more information about the museum’s art collection, visit their website:
